Za’tar from Palestine
From: $2.00
A savory herbal mix of thyme, sumac, and sesame seeds. Delicious by itself on toast or Arab bread (pita), and also used for pizza, sandwiches, omelettes, and more.
Product Description
A traditional staple in the Palestinian kitchen, za’tar is made from powdered thyme, sesame seeds, sumac (a spice made from ground sour berries), and salt. It is eaten with Arabic (a.k.a. pita) bread and olive oil; dip the bread in the oil, and then in the za’tar. For “Manakeesh” (za’tar pizza), combine equal amounts of olive oil and za’tar, and spread on bread and toast or on a pizza crust and bake. Top with cheese if desired. Also perfect for sprinkling on pasta, pizza, chicken, meats and salads!
Thyme is believed –by Palestinians, at least– to improve the memory.
This organic za’tar comes from the hills of the Nablus region.
Free bar of olive soap when you order 3 of the 3 oz. container (great for gift-giving!).
